The fruits of over thirty journeys made between 2004 and 2011 form the bulk of Sebastião Salgado’s striking new exhibition 'Gênesis', travels that took him to such remote and exotic locations as Antarctica, the Galapagos Islands, New Guinea, Madagascar, Rwanda and Ethiopia. In each, Salgado captured rare glimpses of the planet's few hidden wonders that remain untouched by man, together forming in a stunning collection of 245 black and white images.
The exhibition comes to the fitting venue of the botanical garden's Museu do Meio Ambiente (Environment Museum) after popular runs in London and Toronto, with the photos spread beyond the bulk on display on the second floor and out into the gardens themselves, where two metre-high images interact with the flora and fauna.
