Timely collection of photographs showing off the glory of Rio's street carnival from the thirties to present day
Palácio Tiradentes gets an unusual injection of colour and party spirit with the addition of the Abre Alas exhibition, a homage to street carnival through the decades. Split into two parts, the first concentrates on the '30s to the '80s, with 32 black and white photos taking out the colour and leaving merely the emotion and joy of the spectacle for the viewer. The '90s to present day are then covered in glorious technicolour, showing the jammed streets synonymous with the popularity of the blocos today. Revisiting classics like Cacique de Ramos and Banda de Ipanema, the collection will stir both intrigue into the Carnival of yesteryear, and a bit of misty-eyed reminiscing back to the adventures of those more recent.
