Following the performance of the then 12 year-old Canadian girl Severn Suzuki at the 1992 Rio Earth Summit, whose impassioned speech to the assembled world leaders captured the imagination of millions as it was broadcast around the world, it is a reasonable assumption by the folk at Rio+Social that, with social media at their disposal, the younger generations will once again be tuned in to exactly what the politicians are, or perhaps should, be saying.

Following an open forum on their Facebook page and online events focussed on all aspects of the environment in the run up to Rio+20, Rio+Social hosts a day of  discussions to bring all the ideas together and deliver them in a concise, thought provoking whole. Speakers include Fabiane Cousteau from the Plant a Fish initiative and the founder of social media aggregator Mashable Pete Cashmore, one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people of the year.
