September has been an intense month for the carioca art scene, beginning with Art Rio taking over the Mauá warehouses, continuing with Outras Ideias para o Rio scattered all over the city and now a collection of 47 Brazilian artists' work has been gathered under one roof until October.
Curated by the journalist and history of art teacher Mauro Trindade, the exhibition’s title may be a clear reference to the mighty 6B pencil, but within the collection are works as much inspired by drawing as actually drawings themselves. As such, mediums including Chinese ink, graphite and charcoal share the space with video installations and technology, bridging the modern and the traditional courtsey of national names like Manfredo de Souzanetto, Daniel Senise, Tereza salgado and Roberto Magalhaes. Hilton Berredo, meanwhile, created '8 X Gaivotas' specifically for the exhibition, the culmination of a seagull obsession that began when he first noticed their migration past his window (see video below).
