Interiors admirers, furniture enthusiasts and lovers of house-porn alike can get their kicks once more this Spring with the return of Casa Cor, the country's vast network of design shows now covering no fewer than 23 different events all over Brazil. It takes a certain grim determination (or professional motivation) to make it round the full 53 rooms and spaces created by 83 architects, decorators and landscapers, but the lure of finding something special (and affordable) just might be enough; at the end of the event it all gets a price tag and everything must go.

It's not all fancy sofas and expensive kitchens, though. The essential matter of food and drink has been well thought out, with a Flashback bar serving up an audio-visual jukebox with the drinks; choose a cocktail from one menu and an '80s pop nugget from the other and it'll appear moments later. A lunch buffet is available on the patio (the kitchen, of course, open for all to see inside too), and as well as a return for last year's homewares and jewellery shops, there is a deli selling fancy oils, chocolate and wine. You're going to want to fill the shelves of that (imaginary) new kitchen with something after all, right?

More recently, part of the charm of Casa Cor has also been the host building, in previous editions something of a crumbling relic given a new lease of life with the magic touch of that year's designers. Following on from Palacete Modesto Leal in Laranjeiras in 2010 and Palacete Linneo de Paula Machado in Botafogo last year, this time around the beautiful former hotel and nurses' university in Flamengo receives a much-needed makeover. Earmarked for renovation works for several years, the money ran out and the building has sat in ruins ever since, making the Casa Cor intervention even more timely, just so long as the removal men are as careful on the way out as they were on the way in.
