Having completed fifty years in 2010 with 35 countries and 15 states represented, the much-loved Feira da Providência returns for another five day stint in Riocentro, once more offering diverse global foodstuffs and showcasing culinary cultures from across Brazil and the world under one roof. The imports are the star attraction, spared the usual hefty taxation and ballooning prices thanks to the profits being donated to the Banco da Providência, helping families on the cusp of poverty into better living conditions. So whether it is Baked Beans or Scandinavian vodka you are pining for most, this is probably the place to get that otherwise prohibitively-expensive treat, though sadly the real bargains are still few and far between.
