The Permanent Collection of Gilberto Chateaubriand is on display on the top floor of the Museum of Modern Art titled "Contemporary Genealogies". Bringing some of the leading artists of Brazil from 1920 to 1970, the work is organized in four sections where the viewer is encouraged to explore new perspectives on the modern world, through the eyes of Portinari, Tunga, Tarsila do Amaral and Di Cavalcanti.
"Visions and Vertigo" recounts the despair of perceived crisis of "non-identity" in Brazil in Brazilian modernism. Already, "Departure City: Conflict and Affections" focuses on modern urban society in which the friction and disagreement live hand hand with friendship. "Hybrid Bodies: Identities in Transit" looks at the body as a battleground of desire. Finally, "Geometric Breaths" talks about the arrival of modernity in Brazil.
