A chance to see a critical collection of modern Brazilian art
The João Sattamini collection is one of the fullest collections of modern Brazilian art, spanning the past 50 years since the entrepreneur began following his passion while still living in Italy. It covers the abstract works of the '60s, followed by the movement known as New Brazilian Objectivity, a change in direction influenced by the opposition to the dictatorship which gained momentum in the '70s. By the time Sattamini was adding to his collection in the '80s, Brazilian art had made a return to a focus on painting. With some works added from the MAC's own collection, this is a fascinating overview of Brazilian art from the past half-century, covering pivotal moments in the history of the nation at a time of growing interest worldwide in Brazilian art as a whole.
