Industrial installation inspired by the bleakest of São Paulo's architecture
São Paulo sculptress Elisa Brecher has had her latest exhibition in MAM Rio’s Espaço Monumental extended until the end of February. The eye-catching star of the show is an eight-tonne, 1.1m diameter metal sphere, that 'floats' two metres off the floor in the main hall and that required the removal of the window fittings to get it into place. Two wires hold the brute in place, requiring engineering precision and calculation. Huge sheets of lead were also placed along the space’s vast walls, each measuring ten metres long, for ‘Ponto Final Sem Pausas’, nicely reflecting the industrial architecture of the building in which it is housed.
