Aluminium sculptures take over at Casa de Cultura Laura Alvim
Carioca artist Franklin Cassaro unveils his latest collection of unusual aluminium foil creations at Laura Alvim in Ipanema. Famous for his half-beast, half-robot sculptures, all are created entirely by hand, but the exhibition includes a previously unseen set called 'Infláveis' ('Inflatables') that take up the entirety of a 24 metre-square room. One of which, Laika Meu Amor is a homage to the dog of the same name, the first living creature sent into space by the Russians on the shuttle Sputnik 1 in 1957.
