As an artist, Felipe Barbosa is known for his interest in constructivism and his work with geometric interpretations of everyday objects. In De Casa/Em Casa, he explores the boundary between abstraction and geometry. Often using the motif of a house, a motif that he’s also used widely in past works, he creates dynamic canvasses that seem to transform and grow more complex the more you look. Carefully balanced palettes of metallic, pastel and primary shades give the paintings a sense of contemporaneity, as if they were born in the street, contrasting with the geometrical enquiry that the artist proposes.
Barbosa recently exhibited in Paço Imperial, where he showed his more well-known sculptural works. Barbosa works with geometric structures such as the football, de-constructing and then re-assembling the ball to create new shapes and experiments in form. He also works with everyday found objects, such as Coke bottles and subway tickets, creating interventions that could be best described as moments of urban poetry.
