Some of the most important impressionist works of art from the Museu d’Orsay are displayed at the CCBB, bringing a little flavour of Paris to the downtown Rio cultural hub. The exhibition follows on from the overwhelming success in Sao Paulo where some 320,000 visitors passed through the doors to cast an eye upon key pieces from the pivotal art movement that grew out of France in the 1870s.
Known for its extensive collection of both impressionist and post-impressionist art, the Museu d’Orsay has sent 85 works south for what is the biggest art installation of its kind in the history of Brazil. The likes of Van Gogh, Cezanne, Renoir and Monet are among the household names on show, but this is a rare chance to see so many hugely influential artists under one Brazilian roof.
