One of the side effects of the gentrification of Lapa is a crop of shiny new bars that might be slightly more costly than their no-nonsense predecessors, but make up for it in other ways. Leviano is one of them, with a smart look, roadside open-air patio and belting upstairs dancefloor taking in everything from reggae to jacking house music.
If you're feeling peckish, get there early and try the seafood moqueca (stew), or for an original take on the classic bar snack, order the bolinhos de feijão (deep-fried balls of beans - nicer than they sound, trust us). Move upstairs as the night wears on and look out over the rest of Lapa and its iconic arches from the dancefloor's large windows.
