A discreetly stylish spot where the wine and cocktails rule
With its clean lines, soothing orange lighting and pleasing blend of luxurious white leather and utilitarian plastic seating, Ambre is a discreetly stylish contradiction to Botafogo’s largely workmanlike bars. Bar snacks here have all received the touch of the gastro-perfectionist, and even the chips come in four different varieties ("English" potato, sweet potato, yellow sweet potato and aipim, to be exact). Equally lovingly prepared are the cocktails; try the signature Ambre, a zingy explosion of lime, passion fruit, vodka and acerola which tastes too full of nourishing goodness to be alcoholic, or pick from the well-considered wine list, a selection that merits further attention as afforded by the wine club events held here. Tuesday nights include the opportunity to try out new cocktail creations from the master mixologists, and DJs and the occasional dose of live jazz keep things swinging both during the week and at weekends.
