The first ever Beatles-based bloco caused (rather fittingly) an all-out roadblock two years ago, bringing Botafogo to a standstill and sending the thousands who turned up not quite knowing what to expect into the rainy heavens with funked-up versions of tracks like 'Hard Days Night' and a samba-kissed 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand'. The authorities may have moved them on to the less intimate surroundings of the Aterro do Flamengo, but that is unlikely to stop the fun, with tens of thousands expected to flock for a little Liverpudlian love-in. It also represents one of the few opportunities for frustrated non-Portuguese speakers desperate to have a crack at singing along to some of the perennial samba standards to belt out a few songs of their own.
