The man on everybody's lips as the modern saviour of bossa nova may have played but a couple of live shows this side of the state border, but the anticipation for his debut album, released on 9 October, couldn't have been much stronger. The five track EP that hit the internet in 2011 got tongues wagging about this new young talent from Espírito Santo who had earned his stripes busking on the streets of Ireland as a student before returning to Brazil to set up a home studio and start making music full time.
The results are a joyfully innocent-sounding wander through youth and life, and with James Blake collaborator Matt Colton in charge of mastering the album, those tracks that first got Silva noticed are now beefed up and filled out to appeal to an even wider audience. The CCBB's Sai da Rede programme has brought artists like Silva, largely brought to light via the internet rather than huge label marketing budgets, to new audiences, and with two sittings, including an unusual lunchtime slot, this offers a great up close and personal view of a keen young talent.
