Trapiche Gamboa is one of the most traditional of all the samba halls in Rio, showing the young pretenders in Lapa a thing or two about authenticity with their rootsy style and sound. That means even on a Thursday night the dancefloor soon fills with local movers and shakers, getting down to the sounds of samba and jogo, the Angolan music to which samba owes much of its rhythm. The Grupo Razões Africanas lead the dance until late, but it is the agility of the dancing just as much as the musicianship that make this a must.
