Back in 2000, a group of friends decided to set up their own bloco, organising the whole affair over the internet (sounds revolutionary, huh? Bear with us). Bloco Virtual in Leme was the result – the music, themes, and colours were all chosen by online contributors, with the bloco's flags created by the old guard from various famous schools such as Mocidade Independente and Unidos da Rocinha. An excellent way to see in the Carnival weekend in one of the city's most underrated neighbourhoods.
