Three of the biggest bloco bands in the city on one bill, under one roof, for one night only
Closing off four streets and causing every beer seller for blocks around to run out is no mean feat for a carnival debut, but the Sargento Pimenta (Sergeant Pepper) crew did precisely that last year. On the back of a huge sound truck they kept the drizzle at bay with a rousing set of covers from the Liverpudlian legends, knocking out a funk version of A Hard Day’s Night, All My Loving in the style of a marchinha and a samba-kissed I Wanna Hold Your Hand. Expect all that and more at the huge Fundição Progresso venue as they ready themselves for their return outdoor show on Monday, appearing on stage with the mighty Rio Maracatu and Orquestra Voadora.
