Last year's revelation returns, this year to the roomier surrounds of Flamengo Park
The formula is simple; marchinha and samba versions of Beatles classics played by a talented bunch of musicians and sung back by a sea of enraptured Carnivalgoers. What could be better? The Fab Four are as popular here today as they were at their peak, and getting their own bloco homage seems, in many ways, long overdue. The result of their debut in 2011 was Botafogo bedlam, street after street rammed with people trying to get within screaming distance of the crossroads that the sound truck was parked on, so this year they have been moved to the open spaces of Aterro do Flamengo. A bit of a gringo treat too given that all the songs are, for a change, in English.
