Plucking a world of sound from the upright piano
For the recording of their latest DVD to mark ten years of gripping performances, the PianOrquestra welcomes a host of special guests to the Baden Powell stage for a journey through Brazilian rhythms, with the piano and its various timbres always as the centrepiece. Four pianists and a Japanese percussionist gather around the instrument, hitting it with everything from a flip-flop to pieces of wood to recreate the likes of Chico Buarque and Milton Nascimento, the vocals of Teresa Cristina, Manu Santos and Mariana Baltar maintaining the flow.
