The return of Brazilian pop favourite to Flamengo
Armed with a host of new songs from her latest album O que Você Quer Saber de Verdade, Marisa Monte returns to the Rio stage for a series of Winter-warming performances at Flamengo's Vivo Rio. With the added attraction of drummers from Nação Zumbi in the line up and live video art installations on the side, the July shows sold out almost immediately, leading to six more dates being added in September.
Monte's blend of pop-rock and MPB stems from her relationship with Nelson Motta, the Brazilian producer whom she met in Italy and who essentially saved her from musical obscurity after her initial foray into the scene in the '80s failed to ignite. Her career may have peaked in terms of sales with the release of the multi-million selling Tribalistas project (with Carlinhos Brown and Arnaldo Antunes), but she can still clearly draw a crowd with her honey-dipped voice and decade-leaping charm.
