Still more than capable of causing a swoon from fifty paces, A-ha vocalist and all-round heart-throb Morten Harket returns to Barra da Tijuca on a solo tour in September. Some 7,000 fans filled the very same Citibank Hall back in 2010 when the full band were last here to romp through their ‘80s smashes ‘Take On Me’ and ‘The Living Daylights’, making such a swift – and solitary – return a trusty barometer of the band’s continuing popularity on Brazil’s airwaves.
With five solo albums to his name since the band went on a hiatus in the early ‘90s, it is the most recent – Out of my Hands – which will form the backbone of the new show. The best-received of the five, Harket has nonetheless failed to recapture anything like the undeniable magic of the band’s best output, meaning that unless the setlist leans heavily on the classics, he might just find a revolt on his hands.
