It has been a long time coming, but finally Lady Gaga is set to make her debut appearance on carioca soil in front of 90,000 screaming fans at the Parque dos Atletas, just weeks before the ‘real’ Queen of Pop, Madonna, does likewise. No other venue would be able to do justice to the Fame Monster herself, with Brazil’s blogs and Twitter feeds running hot with rumour of a tour in their territory for well over two years all but ensuring a sell out show at the Rock In Rio spot.
This being Gaga, and this being Brazil, you can expect the outfits to be more outrageous and the production more outlandish than ever before, plus there is the small matter of a new album’s worth of material to work into the set. Slated for release in 2013, the follow up to last year’s Born This Way will go by the name Artpop, and despite promises of a more considered, mature sound, there is no doubt it will be just as full of bonkers hi-energy pop nuggets as the three that went before it. Get ready, then for Gaga mark IV, and a full-blown pop trip to the furthest reaches of her mind.
