Nine years after her debut album Soul Sessions shot the Devon teenager to stardom, Joss Stone returns with Soul Sessions Volume Two and a bold live show at Barra da Tijuca's not exactly intimate Citibank Hall. Following the much-documented (and mostly unnecessarily so) coverage of her veering if not exactly off the rails, then close enough to for the red-tops, the choice of album title looks like an attempt to return to the simple qualities and hair-raising vocal performances that first made her name. Forget, then, that awards ceremony performance and the mystery appearance of a cod-American accent and focus instead on the 5 million-plus albums sold worldwide, the fact that a young Brit managed to make it in America (a country not exactly short of female soul singers) and the new material including covers of greats like Labi Siffre and The Chi-Lites.
