Magnificent 7: DigitalDubs

Seven stone-cold party starters from DigitalDubs' DJ and founder, MPC

Ten years in the game and rolling stronger than ever, DigitalDubs' long running night at Casa da Matriz may have come to an end a couple of years ago, but that provided the perfect excuse to take their soundsystem on the road. Parties in such diverse spots as Casa Alto Vidigal, Lapa's swanky new Leviano bar, and Centro's Praça XV have been roadblocks, and the former receives the trio once again on 23 March before they truly hit the road with a tour of Europe.

Founding member and DJ Marcus aka MPC (left of photo) took time out to deliver his seven essential bangers from inside his record bag.

Earl Sixteen - 'Malcolm X'
Earl Sixteen is one of my favourite Jamaican singers, and this is a classic song from the '70s and was later recorded by Denis Brown. A good one to start off a set with.

Dubkasm featuring Dub Judah - 'From The Foundation'
Another roots reggae track that is great to start the night with. Its an English production, but the berimbau (the traditional instrument used in capoeira) was recorded in Rio and gets everyone within its first notes.

Little Kerk - 'Weed Them Out'
This was quite a rare (and expensive) record to find a few years ago. I got it from a DJ who was getting rid of his collection and it has been played a lot in our sets ever since. To our crowd's happiness it was re-released a little while ago, making it a lot easier to buy.

Mungo's Hi Fi featuring YT - 'World News'
This is a new release from the Scottish group Mungo's Hi Fi with a guest vocal from singer YT. Its already been a fixture in my bag for a while, however, and i've been playing it off an exclusive, pre-release dubplate.

Vibronics featuring Echo Ranks - 'Let His Name be Praised'
This track is totally danceable and relaxing at the same time. A song of praise with heavy bass and drums - perfect for our parties!

Zion Train featuring Dubdadda - 'Boxes and Amps'
Its a song about the unique vibe that you get when you hear reggae on a proper sound system! So the best place to hear it is one of our parties [:-)]

DigitalDubs featuring Ranking Joe - Fyah Bun Dem
Without a doubt its the most successful of our DigitalDubs productions so far - every time we drop it the place goes off!
