Global music brand's first foray into Brazil
Synonymous with beautiful people dancing to Balearic sounds under Ibizan sunsets, Café del Mar's first foray into Brazil at the end of 2010 seemed to promise much for the city's non-existent DJ Bar scene. The location on the front of Copacabana close to some of the seedier night time activity was therefore somewhat surprising, and what is to be found inside is equally so. Trading on the name, the prices are up there with the most expensive bars in the area, but the feel is more tacky '80s Club Tropicana than hip, house music hangout, and with a restaurant downstairs and bar upstairs there is the distinct feel that it doesn't really know whether it is a bar, a club or a restaurant. Surprisingly, and somewhat sadly, Café del Mar doesn't really succeed in any department.
