Casa da Suiça
After a successful run in São Paulo, the musical comedy about everyone’s favorite eccentric monster family is hitting Vivo Rio’s stage for a short stint. A Brazilian adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, A Família Addams features all the well-known characters – Morticia, Gomez, Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester, Grandmama and Lurch – in a coming-of-age story about family ties and falling in love. While it may take the actors a couple of songs to capture the audience's attention, once the show hits its stride, the laughs don’t stop rolling in, courtesy of the family’s unusual quirks and plenty of pop culture quips (Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style’ and the omnipresent 'Ai Se Eu Te Pego' by Michel Teló both get a look in).
An endearing Uncle Fester (Claudio Galvan) and a powerful performance by the petite Wednesday (Laura Lobo) often steal the show in this rendition of the musical produced by Brazilian theater heavyweight, Claudio Botelho. The slick production’s catchy songs, moving sets and approachable humor mean that even if some of the Portuguese is lost on you, the overall enjoyment doesn't have to be.
