Five places for a pint of Guinness

Raise an Irish toast to St Patrick’s Day, 17 March, with a pint of Guinness.

All Black Irish Pub There’s nothing particularly Irish about this upmarket Jardins boozer, least of all the name. But you will find the black stuff on tap, alongside London Pride and Erdinger. R$16 per pint. (Rua Oscar Freire 163, Jardim Paulista, 3088 7990, allblack.com.br)

The Blue Pub The hit-and-miss food at this raucous two-storey spot just off Avenida Paulista adds a certain authenticity to the pub experience. R$16 per pint. (Alameda Ribeirão Preto 384, Bela Vista, 3284 8338, thebluepub.com.br)

Dublin Live music and a lack of seating make this a stand-and-shout kind of place to nurse a pint. Unless you grab a stool at the bar for an early one on a quiet mid-week night. R$17 per pint. (Rua Min. Jesuino Cardoso 178, Itaim Bibi, 3044 4194, dublin.com.br)

O’Malleys Flirting and watching sports on the big screens are two of the top activities (never at the same time, mind you) at this huge Jardins pub. Drinking draft Guinness rates highly too, especially during their annual St Patrick’s Day party. R$18 per pint. (Alameda Itú 1529, Jardins, 3086 0780, omalleysbar.net)

Queen’s Head The complete lack of any windows in this newly-opened Pinheiros pub inside the Centro Brasileiro Britânico building means you can imagine you’re in rainy old Ireland or England. And then smile when you remember you’re in Brazil. R$13 per pint. (Rua Tucambira 163, Pinheiros, 3774 3778, queenshead.com.br)
