Carnival for many paulistanos is a chance to get out of town. For those planning to be away, a series of pre-Carnival technical rehearsals are a great – and free – opportunity to see the samba schools practicing their parades in the wide open spaces of the Sambódromo. While you shouldn't expect all of the magic and fanfare of the big day itself (the schools don't reveal the costumes or the extravagant floats until the official parade), it can be an interesting sneak preview nonetheless.
