For die-hard fans of the glittering Sambódromo extravaganza, or those who escaped town for the Carnival break and missed the official parade, the annual 'champions' parade' provides a perfect opportunity to take in the magic of the samba school parades one last time before the floats are dismantled and the costumes discarded. And, of course, it's just the champions, meaning you don't have to sit through the parades that weren't quite good enough to make the grade.
The first parade starts at 10pm with the winning school, followed by the second-place school, from the second tier 'Grupo de Acesso'; Pérola Negra and Leandro de Itaquera respectively. Then the schools from the first tier 'Grupo Especial' parade in reverse order, from the fifth-placed, all the way up to a replay of the dazzling performance by the 2013 champion samba school, won for the second consecutive, in a very close shave, by Mocidade Alegre, from the northern São Paulo suburb of Limão.
