To celebrate the 125th birthday anniversary of Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, Shopping Villa-Lobos presents Viva Villa! Pelo Brasil, an exhibition honouring the classical and popular composer’s career with photos, videos and songs.
'Trenzinho Caipira’ (‘The Little Train of the Brazilian Countryman’), one of his best-known compositions, his Toccata sets the tone for the theme of the event: a scenic train with four cars, each one representing a period of Villa-Lobos’s life.
Decorated in an Art Nouveau style, the ‘Paris’ car portrays images of the musician’s time hosted at the Bedford Hotel. Other trains, ‘Vagão do Sertão' and ‘Das Américas' will screen theme-related films, the first featuring new cinema projections, like Menino do Engenho, Deus and Diabo na Terra do Sol, which soundtracks were made by Villa-Lobos, while the second car houses photos of him with other famous artists.
Finally, the 'Amazônia/ Brasil' train displays indigenous rituals that served as inspiration for Villa-Lobos’s tone poem work. The last part of the exhibition features nature sounds, and scenes from concerts given by the composer in the ’30s and ’40s.
