Join the masses on Avenida Paulista for New Year's performances by NxZero, Sampa Crew, Paulo Ricardo and others at Réveillon na Paulista.

If a big night out isn't on the cards, this may be your best option. Led by DJ Gil Levy, spinning classics from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s, the party comes to an early close at 3am. Dinner includes starters like salada de palmitos frescos (fresh heart of palm salad) and coroa de tomates italianos (ring of Italian tomatoes) as well as substantial main courses and desserts. Grand Hyatt

Holiday Inn Parque Anhembi

A DJ plus members of the Mocidade Alegre samba school liven up this family-friendly party, which also offers a recreation area for children. As for supper, salads, ten different mains and eight kinds of desserts fill the menu, as well as drinks. Starts 9pm-3am. Price R$329 + 10% (party & dinner).

Meliá Jardim Europa

Another relatively tranquil option and a good choice for familes and couples, New Year's Eve at the Meliá winds up refreshingly early, at 1am, after a meal featuring dishes like tártaro de salmão com limão siciliano (salmon tartare with Sicilian lemon), bacalhau à portuguesa (Portuguese-style codfish), plus an array of sweet sensations for kids and the sweet-toothed. They've also got live music for the party soundtrack. Starts 8pm. Price R$249+10% (party & dinner).

Hilton São Paulo Morumbi

The Hilton's exquisite art collection and decor provide the perfect ambience for the drinks and amuses-bouches served before the three-course dinner, accompanied by a small band, in the Canvas Restaurant, that ends at 1am. The other option is the party at Salão Morumbi, which goes until 3am, and features buffet service and a band. Starts 8pm. Price R$650-$890 (Canvas); R$599 (Salão Morumbi).

This celebration rocks out to the sounds of DJ Dario at the hotel's Havana Club Bar. To eat, look forward to a choice of appetisers including 11 kinds of antipasti. The twelve mains include paella valenciana, and there's also also a buffet table of breads and desserts. Drinks are included. Starts 9pm. Price R$900 (party & dinner).

Tivoli São Paulo – Mofarrej

Close to the action on Avenida Paulista, this terrace party boasts an open bar and 360-degree views of the fireworks over the city. The Rosas de Ouro samba school will be performing, and fortune-tellers will be on hand to make predictions for 2014. The elaborate menu includes fresh oysters with a pisco and vodka vinaigrette, creamy rice with sliced duck and several desserts. Starts 8pm. Price R$700-$900 (party & dinner).

Take your pick from a number of options at the impeccable Emiliano, mixing and matching dinner, the party, and an overnight stay. All the options include an open bar, and in addition to supper, a ‘lucky risotto’ is served at 3am. The packages with accomodation are for two people. Starts 8pm. For the privilege of seeing São Paulo lit up on New Year's Eve from the roof of the Unique – one of the best viewpoints in the city – you’ll need to stay the night.
