There are no balloons and no birthday cake, but it’s time to celebrate nevertheless, for the hugely important Instituto Tomie Ohtake. The exhibition ‘Os Primeiros Dez Anos’ – ‘The First Ten Years’ – symbolises the venue’s birthday and also its legacy since its opening in 2001.
This exhibition brings together work by 50 contemporary artists from different areas and backgrounds in order to show what they have in common when it comes to their themes, their impulses and the feelings they put into their work. Pieces by artists like Yuri Firmeza, Cinthia Marcelle, Ana Elisa Egreja and Rodolpho Parigi, all created in the last decade, show where Brazilian art stands in the present, and also in a past that's just a step away.
