Mara Schimpf is one of the six photographers chosen by the annual competition ‘Nova Fotografia’ (‘New Photography’). The prize? – an exhibition at the MIS, São Paulo’s Museum of Images and Sound. Schimpf’s worked consists of day-to-day images that are bursting with possibilities for interpretation, like this deceptively simple image of someone moving across the sand – a beach? the desert? – holding a grubby, dishevelled white umbrella.
