Baró has two new exhibitions to get 2012 started: ‘Dário Escobar: Recent Works’, and ‘Eduardo Srur: Art Saves’.
Escobar’s show, features works created over the past 12 year. It includes Quetzalcoatl, a large-scale installation in rubber, reminiscent of a snake in its sinuous forms, which was part of the 2009 Venice Bienniale. The Guatemalan artist also uses objects like baseball bats and footballs, adding an ironic spin on the objects's original purposes.
Srur’s exhibition is a reenactment of a protest that he did last December in Brasília, when he put 360 lifesavers into the reflecting pool at Brazil’s Congresso Nacional in an attempt to draw attention to the importance of art. The floats had ‘arte salva’ or ‘art saves’ painted on them. The exhibition also features a video about the protest, and a series of watercolours of icons like the Statue of Liberty wearing life preservers.
