The exhibitions ‘Futuro do Pretérito’ (‘Future of the past’) and ‘Fresta’ (‘Slot’) are opening simultaneously at a newly renovated Mendes Wood. ‘Futuro do Pretérito’ is a collective show featuring four artists from Rio Grande do Sul: Cristiano Lenhardt, Leticia Ramos, Luiz Roque and Michel Zozimo. Besides being born and raised in the same state, they’re all in their thirties and have all, in one way or another, played with notions of sci-fi, either as a theme or in techniques that bestow a kind of retro-futuristic feel to the work. Lenhardt, for instance, takes photographs that makes the human body look somehow extra-terrestrial.
‘Fresta’, taking place at the same time, is a solo exhibition by the artist Patricia Leite. She makes paintings inspired by photographs that she either takes herself or borrows from someone else, creating colourful landscapes that look as vivid as the original photographs.
