Sidney Amaral is both a painter and a sculptor. He looks for inspiration in ordinary objects like flip-flops and scissors, and reproduces them in metal – with a twist. A pair of scissors grows a pair of ears for handles, while a cheese-grater stands daintily on two fat golden legs. His drawings are just as powerful, because he paints people and backgrounds with forceful, heavy brushstrokes. In one of them, the artist is the main character, represented losing a boxing match with a bride’s dress.
