This film festival’s somewhat strange name 'Silhuetas Musicais' ('Musical Silhouettes') is the oeuvre of German filmmaker Lotte Reiniger, a '20s animation pioneer. Reiniger created intricate paper models which she would use to cast shadow silhouettes, which in turn would generate the detailed universe and characters in each of her films.
SESC Ipiranga will screen seven of them, including some adaptations of fairy tales and fable such as Sleeping Beauty and The Ant and the Grasshopper, with live music and narration as the soundtrack to each film.
