Taking a purist approach to classic Jamaican sounds, the regular night Jamboree takes place every two months at the Centro Cultural Rio Verde. Focusing mainly on other Jamaican rhythms, the organisers of the night devote themselves to bringing rocksteady and early reggae pioneers, such as Jackie Bernard from the legendary Kingstonians, to São Paulo for live shows, promoting the culture via an exemplary music blog (youandmeonajamboree.com – in Portuguese).
‘This is a critical time,’ says Sono, the blog’s founder, ‘because the Jamaican pioneers are getting old. We’re working hard to bring them over.’ Sono is also a member of Jurassic Sound System, a group of five collectors of rare Jamaican records who run the night.
