Active since the ‘40s, Cauby Peixoto is well-known for his outrageously loud clothes (picture a toned-down Liberace). But the singer is more than velvet and brocade. Partly due to his notably deep singing voice, Cauby has been called the Brazilian Elvis Presley in the US. And although he also experiments with MPB, jazz and swing, his songs of samba-canção (a slower melancholy strain of samba) are his trademark, almost making him a spokesperson for broken hearts. Such is the case of his unforgettable ‘Conceição’, a definite safe bet to make the set list at tonight’s concert.
