Lanny Gordin is something of a legend in the Brazilian music scene. As a virtuoso guitarist, he earned the nickname 'the Tropicália Hendrix' for his playing with, among others, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil and the multi-instrumentalist composer Hermeto Pascoal, whom Miles Davis described as 'the most impressive musician in the world'. However, Gordin's also a composer in his own right, with classic albums like Tropicália to his name.
Now, over the course of two shows at SESC Pompeia, Lanny Gordin will showcase his new group, Lanny's Quartet, and the new playing style (estilo novo) he's developed with them. The band will reinterpret classic songs from Gordin's four-decade career – including 'London, London', 'Pérola Negra' and 'Tropicália' – as well as inviting special guests on stage in the form of fellow guitar-maestros Pepeu Gomes and Luiz Carlini.
