Crowdfunding, a method of pooling together money by local fans intent on luring international bands operating below the arena-sellout level, brings Swedish indie band The Radio Dept. to the stage of Beco 203 on 6 July.
The dreamy pop trio born as the result of the friendship between schoolmates Johan Duncanson and Elin Almeredin 1995, broke off three years later, but resumed successfully in 2001 without Almered. After years of performing with a rather inconsistent lineup, the now stable and versatile group features three multi-instrumentalists: Carlberg and singer Duncanson take turns on the guitar and bass whilst Daniel Tjader plays keyboards and electronic drums.
The upcoming show at Beco 203 should please both fans and the normally reserved band, who have made it known that they are more comfortable playing in intimite settings than sprawling outdoor festivals.
