A full 512 years since the Portuguese first set foot in Brazil, the two nations are having a cross-continental group hug of sorts with 10 months of cultural events in the ‘Year of Portugal in Brazil’. Starting the celebrations on a full stomach, seven Portuguese eateries in SP are serving special set menus for a fortnight in the Temporada da Culinária Portuguesa.

Go for salt cod baked with olives and eggs at Bacalhoeiro (R$125 for 3 courses) or in Bacalhau à Beneditine – a cod and potato gratin at Tasca do Zé e da Maria (R$80 for 3 courses). Hit up informal eatery Da Terrinha (R$60 for 3 courses) for porcine pleasures with suckling pig.
