Simple, though over-salty Mediterranean fare

After being voted best newcomer in the 2010/11 Veja food and drink awards, chef William Ribeiro has some high expectations to live up to. Wisely, he keeps his food simple and tasty concentrating on perfecting the Mediterranean-inspired pasta, fish and meat dishes in which he specialises, which include two rather pricey house specials: cod on rustic potatoes scattered with fresh tomato, peas and onion (bacalhau à moura encantada), at R$78, and a roasted shoulder of lamb (paleta de cordeiro), at R$72.

The fish of the day (R$52) – a fillet of robalo on the day we went – came with rice and chunks of meltingly tender seafood, and was marred only by its being seriously over-salted. The bright and bold decor and the delightful garden out back, though, make for a thoroughly pleasant spot for either lunch or dinner.
