
Inspired by the the London Design Festival and Milano Design Week, São Paulo is hosting its first weekend dedicated to angular chairs and designer wallpaper with the Design Weekend – DW!. Contemporary design events, exhibitions and product launches will be taking place in galleries and showrooms across town. Read on for our round-up of five of the weekend's highlights.

Brazilian artist Alvaro Abreu carves delicate spoons out of bamboo, hundreds of which will be on display in an exhibition at the Museu da Casa Brasileira, alongside photographs of the spoons shot by German photographer Hans Hansen. Sign up here to join a spoon-sculpting workshop with Abreu on Saturday 11 August (10am-6pm, R$80), or come along to the launch of the book Alvaro Abreu Bamboo, with photographs by Hans Hansen, during Design Weekend on 25 August, 11am-3pm. Exhibition runs until 19 September.
