This stage musical, adapted from MGM's 1939 special effects blockbuster, comes to Teatro Alfa, directed by the duo behind some of the biggest, boldest musicals to grace Brazilian stages in recent times – Charles Möeller and Claudio Botelho. Their most recent productions include adaptations of Hair and Fiddler on the Roof.
A roster of 150 production staff, 14 different stage settings, 300 outfits and a cast of 35 should go some way to recreating the technicolor wonder of the original movie. And while the songs and script are in Portuguese, anyone who hasn't been stuck in Kansas for their entire childhood should enjoy letting the music transport them back to the world of Dorothy, Toto and her motley crew of companions.
The Brazilian actress Heloísa Perissé plays the evil witch and the actor Lúcio Mauro Filho plays the lion, while the part of Dorothy is played by Malu Rodrigues.
