The legacy of legendary New York choreographer Alvin Ailey, credited with popularising modern dance in the middle of the last century, today lives on through his world-famous dance theatre, currently led by artistic director Robert Battle.
Two different programmes will be performed across the four days, with both including Ailey's signature work 'Revelations', telling the history of the African-Americans' journey from slavery to freedom. The first show also includes the pieces 'From Before', 'Takadame' and 'Grace' (Thursday and Saturday 9pm, Sunday 4pm) while the second performance's one-time showing (Sunday 8pm) features the pieces 'Strange Humors', 'Minus 16' and 'Four Corners', each backed by a unique soundtrack utilising everything from Dean Martin to techno in order to power the grace on stage.
