Christmas in São Paulo wouldn’t be complete without the Cisne Negro Cia. de Dança’s rendition of The Nutcracker (O Quebra-Nozes), returning to the stage for its 30th year. Set to a magnificent score by Tchaikovsky, a troupe of 120 dancers will bring to life the tale of Clara, a girl who is astonished to see her toys come to life on a magical Christmas Night.
The toys dance, fight, and travel to the Kingdom of Snow and the Land of Sweets, where Clara and her prince are honoured with dances from various countries and with a graceful pas-de-deux by the Sugar Plum Fairy and Prince Coqueluche.
Stepping into the lead shoes this year are the Cuban ballet dancer Rolando Sarabia (12-22 Dec) and the prima ballerina Márcia Jaqueline from Rio de Janeiro’s Theatro Municipal (12-16 Dec), with special performances on 17-22 December from Nadia Muzyca, prima ballerina from the Teatro Colón, in Buenos Aires.
