Ever thought you’d see Cousin It prancing about on stage in a musical? Impossible to see the edge of the stage through all that hair surely? Well, in fact, you can’t see Cousin It on stage but you can catch all the other familiar faces from The Addams Family – Morticia, Gomez, Pugsley, Wednesday, Uncle Fester and Lurch – in the Brazilian version of the Broadway musical.
This Brazilian adaptation is identical in many ways to the Broadway show, with the exception of the songs, which have all been translated into Portuguese. The family, who first appeared in the public eye as cartoons in the New Yorker, are an eccentric and macabre bunch. In the musical, Morticia and Gomez’s daughter, Wednesday, disappoints her family when she falls in love with a nice guy from a respectable family. The musical is directed by one of the biggest names in Brazilian musical theatre, Claudio Botelho.
